Millions of Ukrainians have fled the country in light of Russia’s recent, brutal invasion.

In light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has been ongoing since the past month, millions of Ukrainanians have fled their homeland. Items such as food and other basic necessities are becoming increasingly scant within Ukraine’s borders, and the swarms of people fleeing also desperately need emergency aid. To provide help in a time when it is much-needed, there are a multitude of things that you can do to help, despite living miles away.

Razom for Ukraine

Founded in late 2013 after the Russian annexation of Crimea, Razom has recently launched an “SOS” type emergency response to garner funds for much-needed medical equipment and supplies for hospitals in Ukraine.

World Central Kitchen

Created in 2010 by renowned chef Jose Andres, this non-profit organization seeks to provide nutritious meals to Ukrainians both within Ukraine’s borders and those who have fled.

St. Joseph the Betrothed Ukrainian Catholic Church

Located near O’hare in Chicago, this church is taking donations to raise funds for supplying medical care to Ukrainian soldiers in both Ukraine and the United States, in addition to supporting chaplains in battle zones by supplying basic necessities for soldiers and their families.

Ukrainian National Women’s League of America

Formed from five existing Ukrainian women’s associations in New York City in 1925, the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America is raising funds to provide Ukrainians

with humanitarian assistance and plans to direct these funds to four military hospitals tending to wounded warriors as well as to aid wounded and displaced civilians.

Save the Children

Having recently launched a Ukrainian Crisis Relief Fund, Save the Children, which was founded over a century ago, is taking donations to give distraught children and families essential and emergency aid such as water, food, hygiene kits and cash.

Direct Relief

This organization—specifically designed for giving humanitarian aid—is responding to the crisis in Ukraine by working with Ukraine’s Ministry of Health as well as other partners to supply Ukraine and other neighboring countries that are receiving the influx of refugees from Ukraine with the needed medical support.

Sunflower of Peace

Being a small nonprofit, this organization strives to aid Ukrainian orphans as well as internally displaced persons. Mostly working off its Facebook page (where it accepts donations), one post stated that the organization focused on giving first-aid medical backpacks to Ukrainians in need, with one backpack being able to save 10 people.
