@PaigeWillAlwaysLaugh’s Meme of the Month: November

Paige Smith, Business Editor & Columnist

Hello eArLy MoRnInG gRiNdErS! The meme of the month for November is “Let’s get this bread”. For my non-hustlers out there let me explain, “Let’s get this bread” loosely means “let’s get this money”. But recently its meaning has slightly warped. Now it is more used ironically or as a phrase of encouragement to do well and tackle the day and the challenges ahead. For example before my Pre-Calculus test I would say to my neighbor Katherine “Let’s get this bread” hoping to do well on that test. (Spoiler Alert: I didn’t do well).

“Let’s get this bread” started to get really popular when @BeastCaucasian on Twitter posted a picture of a man in a Chuck E Cheese character costume with the caption “Wake up hustlers, let’s get this bread. No days off.” And after many reposts and retweets in went viral, and with good reason too.Something that really made this phrase side splitting hilarious was that world bread day just happened to be on October 16th which just really added to the irony.

I have both seen and heard some pretty great usage of this phrase. A few of my favorite ones that I have seen is the one with multiple ways to say the phrase like “let’s yeet this yeast”, “let’s tackle this toast”, or “lets gain this grain” and the venn diagram showing the use of the phrase with early morning grinders and ducks. Not gonna lie there were probably a few days where I may have overused the phrase but it’s just too funny not to. I just couldn’t resist the irony. This meme gets 5 out of 5 Harambes. This meme is the second best I’ve seen all year (Nothing can beat tide pods). The fact that it was fresh but yet still reminded me of the past and gave me a good laugh. This meme reminds me so much of the student athlete meme which makes it that much funnier. All around this was an excellent meme. Until next time, this has been @PaigeWillAlwaysLaugh with the meme of the month.
