This year marks the 25th anniversary of Wildcat Weekly. Wildcat Weekly is a student-produced, award-winning news program that airs weekly. Each show focuses on telling the stories that make up the Neuqua community. The program’s achievements and consistency, having started in 2001, have been covering milestones and the everyday lives of the Wildcats, from school events to sports and community news. This makes Wildcat Weekly not just a source of information, but a vital part of Neuqua’s history.
For two and a half decades, Wildcat Weekly has delivered essential news to the student body. A significant part of each weekly broadcast is dedicated to school achievements and extracurricular excellence. Reporters showcase and spotlight topics that deserve attention and celebration. This consistent coverage of campus life creates a relationship between the students and to the spirit and successes of their peers, creating a stronger sense of unity and shared identity across all grade levels.
Ms. Traut, the program’s Broadcast Journalism instructor states, “What’s neat about Wildcat Weekly is it tells Neuqua’s stories, you really get a good feel for the history of this building and the amazing things that we’ve done and the amazing opportunities students get.”
Whether it’s a feature of a club, an interview with a staff member, or coverage on an act of community service, the program aims at capturing the diverse moments that define the Wildcat experience.
Producing these high-quality shows is not as easy as one might think. Media students dedicate their time every day to filming video, getting interviews, and editing so that every Friday students have a polished segment to watch in the morning, informing them on what’s currently happening at their school. Without the hard work of our students many stories would go unnoticed. The commitment to Wildcat Weekly and its long history of informing and inspiring the students of NVHS has gone beyond just a tradition, as it has become a part of Neuqua’s culture.
