With the new school year comes many new classmates as well as some new teachers. Ranging from new deans, student teachers, substitute teachers, and many other people around the school who help tie it all together.
The two new deans, Dr. Copeland and Mr. Carlson, are for the Class of 2024 and 2025 respectively, and the new teachers, students teachers as well, give a fresh face to the school. These new teachers go through loads of training to prepare them for the school year. Mrs. Wilson, who helps with the new teacher induction program, said “The teachers go through a three day induction the week before we start school, including a luncheon and selfie scavenger hunt to make sure they are aware of the different places in the building.”
If you are interested in becoming a teacher, three amazing ways to broaden your lens include the Family & Consumer Science class Early Childhood Learning Lab, which contains the program Wee Wildcats, which is a repeatable semester course where you help teach preschoolers and gives you a new perspective on what teaching is like, including lesson plans and teamwork with your fellow “classmates”. “Wee Wildcats can really teach you where challenges exist for teachers by adapting to everyone’s needs, from learning your ABCs to something like calculus, but it also helps with accepting responsibility.” Dr. Fuhrer, who aids Mrs. Wilson with the new teachers, noted. Another education course in the Business Department is Introduction to Education, which introduces students to developing skills to become teachers in a K-12 setting, and dual credit is offered with this course. Finally, the Future Educators Association (FEA) is a club here at Neuqua for anyone interested in a career in education, and can include shadowing professionals and public speakers. See Mrs. Jensen (FACS) or Mr. Mertz (Business) for details.
