“Black Box” Review

#1. “Black Box” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Black Box” is one of four horror movies released by Blumhouse Studios. It was directed by Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr. and written by Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr. and Stephen Herman. Movie Poster of “Black Box” from Amazon.com.

This movie left me stunned from the beginning to the end, and it definitely required me to use some brain power to process it. The premise behind this film is that Nolan (Mamoudou Athie) cannot remember his life before his car accident and goes in for experimental treatment with Dr. Brooks (Phylicia Rashad) to regain his memories to raise his daughter Ava (Amanda Christine). Although there were no jumpscares, there were definitely grotesque scenes that kept me engaged and even had me audibly saying “ew”. This movie was very complex and made you think about what was happening the entire time, making it a successful combination of horror and sci-fi. When it was revealed what happened to Nolan, I was shaking my head with shock as I was not ready for the twist! This movie was my favorite out of the four due to the unbelievable acting, the complex storyline and the surprising turn of events.
