@PaigeWillAlwaysLaugh’s Meme of the Month (May)
May 21, 2019
Hey guys, its @PaigeWillAlwaysLaugh here ready to fill you in on the meme of the month. I assume none of you find this as a surprise because this has been everywhere, but the meme of the month is the biggest clown on the internet right now — James Charles. Since you’re still reading and clearly want to know more, allow me to shed some light on the most recent internet drama.
Earlier this month, Tati Westbrook posted a 20+ minute video on her Youtube channel titled “BYE SISTER,” dragging James Charles for a plethora of things, but two of the most notable things that she mentioned were that James would pursue straight men — almost to a point where it was uncomfortable for people around him — and that he promoted a competing product to Tati’s even though she was the one who helped get his channel off of the ground. Since then, a few other Youtubers have also decided to point the finger at James Charles.
James later posted an apology video but that didn’t stop his subscriber count from dropping like flies. I have seen videos that are solely dedicated to watching James sub count drop and watching Tati’s rise. I have even seen countless videos of people destroying their James Charles makeup palettes. So basically, James Charles is the new Logan Paul.
Some of the memes I have seen following the Youtube drama have been spot on. I saw one meme of Tati snapping her fingers with the infinity gauntlet on and James Charles pixelating out. My personal favorite that I have seen is a track baton being passed from Logan Paul to James Charles that says “most hated person on the internet.” I have also seen some pretty good Tik Toks relating to the drama. This meme definitely gets a 5 out of 5 Harambes. It was fresh, and I saw so many memes on this topic using multiple formats. This meme will never be forgotten, and it definitely gives Tide Pods a run for it’s money.
But I’m not going to lie, a part of me feels sad for James because the beauty industry isn’t easy, especially when you are only 19. I’m not excusing what he did because what he did was definitely wrong, but as I am writing this I am 18, and I make mistakes on the daily. I’m still trying to figure out who I am and how life works, and I already feel immense pressure to succeed, and I’m not even in the spotlight that James is in. Eventually, this will blow over for him, but in the meantime all we can do is enjoy some good memes.
