2020 Presidential Election Candidate Overview

The 2020 election is fast approaching and many candidates have started to campaign to be the countries next president. Here are some prominent candidates who are running for 2020.

Democratic Candidates

Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders is a Vermont Senator. He has announced another bid for the presidency in the upcoming election after coming in second place for the 2016 democratic primaries. His previous run for president has left him with an extensive campaign network waiting for him. He is also a self-labeled socialist. His main running platform is free college and Medicare for all.

Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris is a former California Attorney General, prosecutor and current senator. She hopes to present herself as someone who will fight for the middle class and minorities, with laws such as her LIFT the Middle Class Act, a widespread tax cut for families making under one hundred thousand dollars. Her main issues are reforming the criminal justice system and being an “advocate for the voiceless and vulnerable,” according to her campaign website.

Elizabeth Warren

Elizabeth Warren is a Massachusetts senator running for president. She drew national attention after President Donald Trump drew doubt on her Native American heritage. She is hoping to rally voters behind a message of addressing income inequality and larger corporations that she sees as a threat to the American middle class. She also hopes to address climate change as is evident through her backing of the New Green Deal.

Joe Biden

Joe Biden is the former Vice President and a former Delaware Senator. Although he has not yet announced a bid for president, he has hinted at the topic many times. Well known as Barack Obama’s Vice President, Joe Biden is a popular choice among many Democrats. The recognition of his name and support from former President Obama has led to many polls showing him to be a favored Democratic candidate.

Republicans

Donald Trump

As the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump is attempting a bid for reelection. He is viewed by many Republican voters as a strong-willed leader who is willing to take on the established Washington order and fight for the American working class. His key issues are immigration, economics and protecting American interests.

Bill Weld

A former Senator and Federal Prosecutor, Bill Weld ran for Vice President on the Libertarian ticket in 2016. He calls himself a moderate conservative and has clashed with Trump multiple times. He has advertised himself as a voice for moderate and mainstream conservatives who feel alienated by Trump. He favors fiscal restraint, free trade and moderate immigration reforms.
