On September 24th, the experienced and inexperienced badminton players of Neuqua Valley go head-to-head in the Gymnastics and Auxiliary gym for the annual Birdie Bash fundraiser. The event hosted by the badminton team during their off-season is open to all students as a chance to win homecoming tickets!
This yearly tradition has been a part of the program for a long time and is very exciting for the team. “I’m playing with my friend that doesn’t know how to play badminton that well, so, I think it’ll be a very fun experience,” shares returning player Hannah George, “I can see her try her best y’know. I think it’ll be funny!” Kanyanat Vajworarat, another returning player, expresses her excitement as well, “I’m ecstatic to get a shirt! And to win homecoming tickets.”
The badminton team had a very successful season last year, placing third as a team at State! When asked about her goals for the upcoming season, Amber Shi says, “I want the whole team to win state champions.” Her sentiment was shared by George and Vajworarat.
The Birdie Bash is a fun way to cheer on fellow students and the badminton team, as well as fundraise for their upcoming season. While there are homecoming tickets on the line, and winning is always the preferable option, it’s important to just enjoy the event. Whether you’re good at badminton or not, the Birdie Bash is a great way to bond with your friends.
“If you’re a tennis player, though,” Vajworarat advises with sincere earnestness, “Please, do not overhand.”
