With summer just around the corner, and the weather getting warmer, it’s time to welcome summer vacation. With summer vacation, there’s so much more downtime and room to fit spending time with friends and family into your day. Here are some fun activities to do during your summer vacation.
Going swimming! Swimming is a summer classic, whether you do it at your neighborhood’s clubhouse or you have a pool in your backyard, it’s a wonderful way to cool off in the humid and sunny weather. Not to mention you can do it with any amount of people. Getting some fresh air, exercise, and some vitamin D is a great way to spend your summer.
Golfing! If you’re just as keen on spending time outside, but not such a big fan of the water, golfing is a good activity that will take up a day of your break! Granted, golfing can be expensive, and you can only take up to three friends along with you, it’s both relaxing and exercise.
Going to an outdoor mall! If exercise isn’t your thing, but you still want to be outside, going to a mall like Oakbrook is a great idea! If shopping is what you like doing, why not shop and be outside at the same time?
Indiana Dunes National Park (“The Dunes”)! Although it might be a long drive, the dunes are consistently a popular spot for Neuqua students during the summer. Yes, you could go to Chicago’s beaches, but let’s be real here, they can be crowded and sometimes they shut them down due to water conditions. However, the dunes are a great place to find a beach, especially being in the midwest. You don’t have to worry about saltwater burning your eyes because, of course, it’s on Lake Michigan.
Chicago! Speaking of Chicago, living so close to such a major city grants us all the great opportunity to go and take a day trip downtown. There are endless possibilities in Chicago: Lollapalooza, other concerts, restaurants, museums, Navy Pier. The choices are endless!
Now that school is nearly over, and already over for the seniors, it is time to take advantage of these activities and the hot summer sun of Illinois and spend time outside. I know it can be hard to get out and off technology, but the memories you’ll make during the summertime are timeless and will last with you for the rest of your life!
