Neuqua Valley’s annual Variety Show is a great way for students to show off their special talents. This year, there were over 50 performers who participated, each a part of a unique act that included instrumental performances, dance routines, singing, and more.
Preparing for this highly anticipated show took a lot of time and effort. Performers collaborated with the Neuqua Theater department and tech crew in order to produce an impressive showcase. The creative use of lighting and effects truly made it an unforgettable experience.
While every student in the Variety Show plays an important role, being a host is definitely a one-of-a-kind experience. Host teams engage with the audience and set the mood through their skits in between acts. This challenging role requires lots of confidence and skill.
Seniors Kate Scardina and Ava Stipp were excited to be host partners in this year’s Variety Show. They have attended this event in the past and have waited many years for the opportunity. One of my favorite skits was their Superbowl-themed act. Not only was it hilarious, but it also allowed them to interact with the audience and keep everyone entertained. Their outgoing personalities made their performance look natural and enjoyable to watch.
When asked what advice she had for students who were nervous to audition, Scardina mentioned that “at the end of the day you’re going to regret it more if you don’t audition because you’re nervous, rather than audition and don’t make it.” She personally found the tryout process to be a fun experience. Similarly, Stipp said that the Neuqua Theater community provided “a judgment-free zone where you can be yourself.” Their positive energy created an overall exciting and friendly environment.
The dedication of the students and staff who were involved in the Variety Show deserves to be recognized. Scardina and Stipp mentioned that it takes a lot of practice to perfect a skit for the show. Outside of school, they worked together to write their piece and brainstorm different costume and prop ideas to make their performance entertaining. The rehearsal days after school gave the students time to improve their acts by helping them understand how their performances would turn out.
Once again, the Variety Show did not disappoint. Everyone involved worked incredibly hard to provide the audience with a memorable and rewarding experience.
If you did not attend the show this year, be sure to come and experience this outstanding event next year.
