In recent years, many students don’t find Homecoming worth the hassle anymore. The increasing price of tickets, fancy dinners, extravagant dresses, and the stress of a date are all factors that cause students to shy away from this special night. Looking at the ticket sales across the years, there is a noticeable decrease.
However, these dances are beneficial to the social development of students and provide an opportunity for face-to-face interaction, a scarce occurrence in our digital age. Sure, students can interact with one another on social media, but nothing compares to the sense of community that’s created through school dances and other social events. All of those factors mentioned previously that decrease ticket sales are actually rather valuable experiences for students, for they force them to get out of their comfort zone and connect with others.
Many students are too concerned with their Calc grade or English essay to realize how important the social aspect of high school is. There’s nothing like it. These years are a strange, in-between state that toggle between certain adult freedoms and other childish limitations. Teenagers are given the opportunity to develop as people before entering the real world, and that is something we should all take advantage of.
Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your homecoming:
The snow is coming a bit early this year at Homecoming 2023, for our student council is going to plan an Arctic Blast! The fun extends all week long, with the Neuqua Olympics on the 20th, the Fall Pep Rally on the 22nd, and finally, the Homecoming Dance on the 23rd! These special events are sponsored by the Student Council, and will be sure to get everyone in the dancing spirit.
In addition to these special events, there are dress-up days for each day of the week. Monday is music tees, Tuesday is tacky tourist, Wednesday is Wild West vs. West Coast, Thursday is Adam Sandler, and Friday is Ice Out! Homecoming Tees will be for sale for $10 in the Rotunda at Main and in the Main Office at the BFC, and can be worn at our Fall Pep Rally.
Tickets went on sale on Monday, September 18th, and can be purchased on PushCoin for $25. Make sure to get your tickets before Thursday, September 21st, for online ticket sales will end by then. However, tickets will be available at the door for purchase as well. If you are planning on taking a guest, be sure to fill out the form for a guest pass in advance and bring it to ticket pick-up. A link to the form is on neuquastudent.org!
