On Jan. 10, Neuqua held its annual “Pack the Place” Special Olympics games. The current Neuqua teams played two Eagles’ teams, groups of Neuqua Special Olympics alumni. A total of 22 alumni returned to play — 13 in the first game and 9 in the second.

The games were hosted in the main gym. Neuqua’s Pep Band provided music, and the Gold Rush showed their support with signs and posters, and a Hawaiian vacation theme.

The first game was close. Although the Wildcats initially pulled ahead, the Eagles won 36-34.

It was also the team’s senior night. After the first game, the Special Olympics team honored their six seniors with flowers and balloons.

Special Spaces, an organisation dedicated to bringing comfort to children with severe illnesses by redesigning their hospital rooms, announced that they were fundraising there by selling T-shirts and bracelets.

The second Wildcat team triumphed in their game. They took the lead early and won 48-20.
