“The Lie” Review
#4. “The Lie” ⭐⭐
“The Lie” is one of four horror movies released by Blumhouse Studios. It was directed by Veena Sud and written by Veena Sud. Movie Poster of “The Lie” from Amazon.com.
The premise behind this film is that Kayla (Joey King) impulsively murders Brittany, her best friend (Devery Jacobs), and her parents Jay (Peter Sarsgaard) and Rebecca (Mireille Enos) create a lie so that she is not sent to jail. This movie lacked any over the top horror scenes but rather focused on disturbing the audience throughout as you see how far Jay and Rebecca go to cover for Kayla and how crazy and over the top King’s character is in the film. The best part of the movie was the end as the twist is not expected and leaves you with your jaw on the floor. While the movie had a nice storyline, I would say it was my least favorite out of the four due to the lack of any scary scenes, King’s dramatic and excessive portrayal of 15 year old Kayla and how overall disturbing it was in many aspects as it focused on the insanity of the situation rather than the raw horror that scary movies should have.
