Interview with a candidate: Bradford Miller
Bradford Miller is a first time candidate for Naperville’s city council. Although he doesn’t have previous experience in local government, he has been a staff member for two state representatives.
He also believes that his experience in law and running his own small law firm for the past ten years will help him on city council, explaining that he, “has to balance budgets every day in [his] business… [he] has to have a plan for the future.” Miller takes the train to work and lives in South Naperville. He believes that his understanding of the community in those regards, especially when it comes to development, is important for the city council.
He explains that he is running because, “Naperville, for the most part, is run very well.” He contrasts this to some of the issues “at the state level,” and explains that he hopes to “keep taxes as low as possible, balance [the] budgets, keep [the] AAA bond rating, and make sure development is done in a responsible way.” He cites the ongoing Fifth Avenue development and says he “wants to make sure commuters are taken care of.” He also says he wants to confront the “opioid crisis in [the] community,” explaining that “it’s a tough issue to talk about … but as a city, [Naperville] needs to combat that as best as [it] can through education and other initiatives.”
Miller believes that the city council’s main responsibility is taking into account the things that “affect people’s lives,” like the budget and development. He says that Naperville, “has a good process in place, where [it] has a lot of boards and commission, so by the time they get to city council, most issues have been developed and worked on.”
Miller says that voters who want to know more about him can reach him through his website, https://millerfornaperville.com. It has information about his positions as well as a contact form.
